Antbears and Antlions

Antbears and Antlions

One early morning in summer we observed many Antlion holes, Pieter showed Joshua how an ant would displace the sound and not be able to climb out of these steep sided holes, the displaced sand would also alert the Antlion its prey had arrived in time for breakfast! Further on down the road Pieter pointed out Antbear tracks, these elusive nocturnal animals feast on termites and we’ve only seen an Antbear once as a family, Pieter on the other hand, has seen more…

Great post about the little things Jennie. As Pieter will know, even the best game guide can have a bad day, these little things are a great way to keep your client interested. I had a lady from Scotland that was more excited when I caught an antlion than when we finally found a “real” lion! I suppose you know how to catch them, the antlion, that is, with a piece of grass?

Thanks, Wayne! The bush is alive and if more people just learnt to take their time, wait, watch and listen, they will be rewarded indeed.
There is a lesson to be learnt from your client in Scotland, “its not always about the lions, tigers and bears!”
